In search of a lost time
Hymn towards Life + Longing for Death = Alatchakra (The Circle of Desire)

The screenplay of ‘Alatchakra’ is based on the literary work by writer Ahmed Sofa. The plot of the cinema consists of stories from refugee lives during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. The cinema will portray Writer’s biography according to the autobiographic novel ‘Alatchakra’ (The Circle of Desire). This is recognized by all that the processes of transforming a novel to a cinema are multi dynamic. Screenplay carries the original tune of the novel. 1971 is the major turning point in the time cycle of entire history of Bengali people. Ahmed Sofa observed that time as an artist and sculpted it in texts with his own experiences. Ahmed Sofa is that writer who planted the seeds of the ideology of a new ‘Bangladesh’. These facts make ‘Alatchakra’ a humanitarian story of the Liberation which comes with the anxiety and sufferings of individuals. I think that we need to take a look outside our cinematic frame to the real world, which still makes our story relevant to present days situation. According to the report of UNHCR, 68.5 millions of refugees are still surviving around the world such as Rohingyas, the refugees from South Sudan, Syria and so on. In 1971, about 10 millions of people of this land became homeless due to the flaming and genocide committed by the ruling military government of that period. Our cinema tries to tell the stories of a few among those who still share the pain and sorrows of all the refugees of that time which is still relevant. Life never gives up on its momentum even if the most deadly disaster takes place in the history of humanities. Though people lose their houses along with families and experience a horrible reality. But still the same incident is repeating over and over again in the world. Time and Space could be trustworthy in Cinema if it contains a humanitarian story. Actually ‘Alatchakra’ (The Circle of Desire) is in search of a lost time through a writer’s life. Presenting this story by Ahmed Sofa, that historical time could be reminded to the new generation again. A circle revolving the Hymn towards Life and Longing for Death is aligned to the unity of oppositions.
